Our Week at John Lewis Leeds!
We’ve just wrapped up an incredible week at John Lewis Leeds - and honestly, we’re still buzzing! What a joy it was.
Being invited to showcase LoveLossDiscoballs in such an iconic space was a total pinch-me moment. From the minute we arrived, we felt so welcomed by the John Lewis team and the lovely customers who stopped by our stand to browse, chat, and share stories.
Our mission has always been to bring a splash of colour, warmth, and honesty to moments that are often hard to put into words. To stand in a space where so many people took time to tell us why they were drawn to our cards was everything.
We heard stories of love and loss. People told us about friends going through tough times, about anniversaries, and about memories they treasure. One thing we’ll never take for granted is being trusted with those moments. That connection is why we do what we do.
And it was such a great experience for us to be able to see what it’s like to work in retail from the other side too!
5 Things We Learnt from a Week Working in Retail
1. Human connection is everything.
We thought we were selling cards - but what we were really doing was having conversations. And every one of them mattered.
2. People really want to talk about their feelings - they just need permission.
So many customers opened up about grief, loss, and love. Sometimes all it took was reading one line on a card for someone to say, “I’ve been through that too.”
3. Display is an artform.
We lost count of how many times we rearranged the stand to make it flow better. Retail layout is all about storytelling - turns out, we love that challenge!
4. Having a product in a shop is one thing - watching someone connect with it in real time is something else entirely.
We’ll never forget the moment a customer welled up reading our “You aren’t broken. You are a disco ball” card. Pure magic.
5. Snacks are essential.
The days can be long and you need all the energy you can get to keep you on your feet smiling all day - and we’ll definitely think of all of our retail friends on sunny days and long weekends from now on - appreciate you guys might not be ok!
If you visited us, thank you. If you took a card home, sent one to someone, or simply stopped to say hello, you’ve been part of something really special for us.
And if you didn’t catch us this time, watch this space. We’ve got more pop-ups coming, more cards being dreamt up, and plenty more ways to bring light to the hard stuff.
